This creamy mushroom sauce recipe can transform your meals and take them up another notch. This sauce rescues the most boring of plates and helps you elevate basic foods into complex, vibrant-tasting dishes. It jazzes up grain bowls, and instantly turns proteins like white fish into a dinner you’d probably pay a lot for at a restaurant.
Mushrooms are also a good source of fiber, and one cup contains only 15 calories. They’re a low-calorie, low-carb food choice and are a great source of B vitamins, copper, and selenium, an essential trace mineral that helps support the immune system and prevents damage to cells and tissues.
Creamy Mushroom Sauce Recipe
Prep Time: 5 min | Cook Time: 13 min | Serves: 3
+ 1 tbsp coconut oil
+ 1 small onion
+ 3 garlic cloves
+ 4 cups mushrooms, sliced
+ 1/3 cup coconut milk
+ 1/2 tsp dried thyme
+ 1/2 tsp dried oregano
+ sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
+ 2 tbsp fresh parsley, coarsely chopped
Heat the coconut oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the onion and saute for 2-3 minutes until soft. Tip in mushrooms and garlic, and saute for about 5 minutes until the mushrooms start to release their juices. Stir in coconut milk, thyme, oregano, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat and simmer for another 5 minutes.
Garnish with parsley and serve with fish, rice, or any other dish that needs to be jazzed up. Enjoy!
